Is there anywhere to eat in Portland, OR?

So, take the train from Seattle to Portland, OR, that way, you can eat on the train, do work if you need to, answer the telephone, and save hundreds of dollars a year on speeding tickets.  Oh.. and have friends bring lunch for you- Friend brought charcuterie, stank delicious cheese, crusty bread, and sautéed chantrelles with apples and balsamic.

Day 1: It is sunny, in the PNW, on a Monday, in the month of October…. Lets go find a rooftop bar!  We have a couple Manhattans on the patio of Noble Rot and head off to Beaker and Flask.  We had the most comedic server, and the food and drink were as memorable as my last visit.  Ian was our server… and although he was extensively knowledgeable about every food and libation curiosity we asked about, he was also hilarious and so quick-draw-McGraw on his sarcastic firings and comebacks.  The food could have sucked and having him as our server could have made up for it.. but THE FOOD DID NOT SUCK.  We had some incredible Fried Chicken Livers with Chestnut Cream that I would seriously bathe in.  Throw in some gigantic Sweetbreads.  Mmmmm… Mother Earths’ Natural Chicken Nugget!  We also had some lovely Bunny Legs and Piggy Belly.

Day 2:  After some Happy Hour at Davis Street Tavern we head to Little Big Burger, (no link, at this point… find it and go).  I don’t think I should tell you much about this place, just go check it out.  We end the night with Portland City Grill and their lovely Duck Confit in Bao Bun  (food boner).

Day 3: Lunchtime by myself!  I choose Ate Oh Ate because I also grew up in that zip code (808)!  FRIED RICE OMELETTE WITH SPAM AND PORTUGUESE SAUSAGE????  Holy Crap, its like I’m at Elena’s again in Kalihi.  It was good enough to go back for lunch the next day.  This time I went for a 2 item combo with Kalua Pig, Chicken Katsu, rice and mac salad.  I also grabbed a couple Spam Musubi to grub on, on the train ride home.   I get home and finally eat them, only to find out that they quite possibly be THE BEST spam musubi I have had since being on the islands.

Night 3:  Waiting for other chef buddies to decide if they are joining for dinner, we grab a drink and a few bites at The Gilt Club .  We had some Chicharones (that arrive in front of you still popping from being just fried), the Foie Torchon, and the mind blowing Pigs Foot… stuffed with Foie, Sweetbreads, and who knows what the hell else, but this thing was freaking gigantic, delicious, and the chef even came out to see who these crazy bastards were that were ordering this thing!  Too bad they were out of the Ortolan!

We had dinner at June, which barely even has a sign out front, so also no link to no website.  But the drinks, food, service, and company were on point…
