Pause, Cafe Castagna and Irving Street Kitchen, Portland OR

Im off in Portland, Oregon again… its like my 2nd home and I am excited about what to eat!

After a long ride down, and work, im a little lazy so I pick up burgers, salad, and Confit Chicken Wings from Pause Kitchen and Bar  Burgers are cooked perfectly, and we both could only finish half.  The Confit Chicken Wings are amazing.  They are little brined, crispy chicken wing lollipops doused in a honey mustard sauce.

Next day I am craving Duck Confit, so we head to Café Castagna for some French cooking.  Sorry I didn’t take any pictures, but I wanted to eat, and just think about eating.  We had a frisee salad with lardoons and a fried poached egg… yum.  Then shared a pizza with asparagus, prosciutto, and a popped egg… yum.  Steak Frites?  Yes please.  Top dinner off with a beautiful duck leg confit, over white beans.  Belly… Happy

I have heard much about Irving Street Kitchen, where restaurateurs from the San Francisco area have decided to settle into the Pearl District in Portland and open a new spot.  Holy Crap was I delighted!  The space was amazing, drinks were delicious, server was on it, and there were beautiful people everywhere you turned.  Then the food came!  (sorry the pictures are poopy, but my camera is at the camera doctor).

“ Excuse me Miss, we would like”:

 Charcuterie PlatterBBQ Shrimp with Biscuits

Asparagus Salad with Poached Egg and HollandaiseLamb Loin with Spaetzle and Fresh PeasSpatezle!?!? Hell Yes!!

This piece of Halibut had so many levels of flavors (including lavender), I was speechless.

 Fried Chicken!

After dinner, I was so impressed I needed a bourbon to sip while I processed my thoughts on the dinner that was in my belly.  So we walked over to Henry’s Tavern and ordered a Manhattan on the rocks, and LOOK at this glass of booze they served me!
