“What Are Other Restaurants Even For?”; Wafu!!
Friday, December 9 After some deliberation over free bourbon, on where the PDXS crew should eat, we are off to Wafu. Now we did recently visit this spot, which delighted our bellies, but we were missing an integral part of the crew, Schmank. Although he was there in spirit, we needed to experience the WAFU love with him.
As we walk in, we are instantly sat at our favorite spot, the kitchen bar, where we can watcha l the action take place as our meal is prepared. The sweet sounds of the greatest hits from the 80’s, 90’s, and today please our earholes. Shmank pulls a Trubles and hands the menu off to us to decide what will grace his digestive tract. Lets start this off holiday style with an Bourbon Egg Nog Drink that doesnt have Egg Nog in it.
Our meal begins as a sushi roll of Scallop Tartare and Pork Belly shows up.
How they came up with this combination in a roll… I don’t know, but my mouth-hole thanks them for it. Then things start to really take off when the Inari Hot Pockets arrive.
These little pockets of tempura fried Inari are stuffed with fontina and prosciutto. Just stupidly incredible. Schmank brings up a very great point in form of question and answer: “What are other restaurants even for? To not eat at!!” Next up comes a roasting hot Butterfish Hot Pot.
A sort of a Bi Bim Bap Style of rice to get crunchy on the bottom, with Butterfish and bonito flakes, and bright hint of citrus by means of yuzu. Pour in Dashi, stir.
I love everything about her, Butterfish. Food keeps flying on to our table, and into our mouths as Tempura Shrimp arrives.
One in a Spicy Cream Sauce and one in a Wasabi Mayo, along with some daikon salad. We must revisit some Lamb Tongue.
I described this in detail on the last post on the restaurant, but again… The lamb is cooked confit and you seriously don’t even need to chew it for it to fall apart. The cooks explained the process to us, lamb tounges confit under lamb fat for 12 delicious hours. Baaaaaaaaaaa!!! I could eat this every single day of my life… really.
We decide to double up on Ramen. “Double up, Uh Uh”. Aburasoba Ramen, no broth, tossed in tare, with kim chee, fried egg, pork belly, and pickled carrot.
Then a large bowl of shoyu ramen with Smoked pulled pork, and Gare Bear hooks up our trio with a trio of poached eggs!
We are full to the right level at this point, and our singing of 90’s rock Ballads has grown to a level that attains looks from all others in the restaurant.
Lets keep this night rolling by singing the night away karaoke style, and ordering all 10 bottles of champagne in the karaoke joint!
Vomiting, 3am Pizza, and terminal illnesses ensues.
