Bro-thday Weekend in Portland; Laurelhurst Market, Pix, Slappy Cakes, Pope House Bourbon Lounge, Irving Street Kitchen, Beez Neez, Pine State Biscuits, and a Roasted Pig!
Wednesday, February 9 Its Bronamath’s birthday weekend and we are off to Portland for the weekend. We stayed at the Nines Hotel which was very cool… except for the terrible valets and the fact that they for some reason removed the top sheets of the beds!
The first dinner is at Laurelhurst Market. I had a delicious crispy sweetbread and a Piedmontese Teres Major steak with Hollandaise. The pictures I took ended up being terrible, but here is a picture of the lovely butter lettuce salad that my lovely wife wouldn’t share with me.
Since my wife is with me on this trip, we head to Pix Patisserie to bring some treats back to the room.
The next day we are off to Tasty n Sons for brunch, but although warned of the upcoming 1 hour wait… Bronamath’s lady is not having it. So we head over to Slappy Cakes to instead, wait there for an hour and fifteen minutes! Dude, they seriously have “Chicken Fried Bacon”!!! and its really good! Bronamath went for it and got the Pork Belly Benedict, which is topped with Bacon Fat Hollandaise! I opted for some creamy mushroom polenta with crispy fried & brined chicken wings.
Mmmm… healthy.
We went on the Portland Underground Tour, which ended up being more of a Portland City Walking Tour, led by our tour guide, Ned Flanders. After that and before dinner, we let the ladies run around 23rd and get some shopping time in. Bronamath and I did some shopping as well, but also found Pope House Bourbon Lounge. I am very surprised I have never been in her before, and you can bet that I will be going back in. they have more Whiskey and Bourbon than you can count, and a club that you get a plaque if you drink more than 50 of their brown booze, and the food there is all southern influenced. I have set a personal goal to get myself a plaque. We also stopped at Mu Mu’s for my favorite little $5 snack of perfectly cooked hanger steak. Oh, and if you happen to be passing by 23 Hoyt, make sure and have the amazing bartender, Erica, make you a custom beverage… she is good.
Next stop, Irving Street Kitchen. Fried Angels on Horseback? Yes Please! The Wifes Beet Salad
she actually gave me a bite this time! But just a bite. I opted for the Porchetta…
nummers. While we are eating at dinner, my wife says she wants to go get hot dogs from one of the food carts late night. Im down! We went to Beez Neez at 1am and we got our dogs, mine was made of wild boar.
I set the TUMS next to the bed on the nightstand before going to sleep.
Its Super Bowl Sunday and time to head back to Seattle, because Brojosh has already started roasting the pig he named Ben Rothlesberger. But we cant leave Portland with empty Bellies! So we stope at Pine State Biscuits to Enjoy a Reggie Deluxe, some Fried Green Tomatoes, and a Bloody Mary. Oh yeah, and a sweet tea for the road!
After the drive back to Seattle, I meet the roasted Ben!
